Being a lifeguard for over six years, sunscreen was always a priority before hitting the decks. Sunny, overcast or raining, I needed to protect myself from the sun every single day when patrolling the water. Other than applying it myself, it was also my duty to inform beach and pool goers to do the same thing.

To raise awareness of the importance of sun protection, NIVEA Sun Australia has teamed up with American artist, Thomas Leveritt, to launch a new, ground-breaking clip that uses an ultraviolet (UV) camera to demonstrate the effectiveness of sunscreen. Filmed on Bondi Beach, Australia, the UV video demonstrates how sunscreen protects skin from UV rays. Literally. The camera allows you to see the layer of protection the sunscreen creates over your skin when applied. You’ll have to watch the video to know what I’m talking about:

Here, I am teaming up with NIVEA Sun Australia to encourage people to take care of themselves and one another with sun protection when outside in the sunshine.

Yes, everyone loves working towards a great tan and will sit under the sun for hours to accomplish their goal, however before smothering your body in coconut/carrot oil, apply some sunscreen. Here, you’ll be on your way to getting rid of your pasty skin colour and at the same time protecting it from harmful UV rays.

So when you head to the beach, pool or just hanging out in the backyard, spare a few minutes and slap some sunscreen on. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
