If you’ve been following my blog over the last seven months, you’ve probably asked yourself the same question over and over again: “What is with this dude and his endless love for Pitti Uomo?!”
Well, let’s start off with the basics, what exactly is Pitti Uomo? Here I’ll give you guys a quick run down on what the actual trade show comprises of and why I love it so darn much. Hopefully we’ll be able to share a mutual feeling by the time you’re done reading 😉
History.
Pitti Uomo is run by Pitti Immagine, an Italian organisation that has been running some of the most important fashion events in the world since the 1950s. Pitti Uomo started in 1972 and is one of the eight events held in Pitti Immagine’s home of Florence. For a complete timeline of the event click here.
What?
GQ: “Contrary to popular belief, or, you know, what you see in street style photos, Pitti Uomo is not just an excuse for steezy men to sit on a half wall enjoying gelato. The swarm of well-dressed gents who descend on Florence are really there to attend the trade show Pitti Uomo, a biannual gathering that draws retailers, editors, and menswear enthusiasts from around the globe. In the simplest terms a trade show is where brands show off their latest collections to eager store buyers, and while conceptually, Pitti is no different than other shows like (capsule) or Project, the exhibitors and sheer scale of the four-day event are what separate it from the pack (read more).
When?
The four-day trade show is held twice a year, once during the Winter season in the month of January, and the other during the sweltering European heat in June (european seasons).
Where?
The trade show is held at the in the 59,000-square-meter exhibition space at the Fortezza da Basso houses in the main pavilion, Florence – Italy (click to view map).
Who?
Fashion icons giants such as Nick Wooster, Lino Ieluzzi, Luca Rubinacci, Alessandro Squarzi, Mariano di Vaio, the guys behind Art Comes First Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh and many more attend annually. Photographers Lee Oliveira and Tommy Ton are continuously sweeping through capturing some of the most amazing imagery, which has helped global bystanders salute Pitti Uomo for their amazing efforts.
